Working on this website has reminded me of an important digital barrier I believe most should establish for themselves: the inconvenience of sharing content online. But what do I mean by this?
Modern social media platforms such as Twitter/Discord/Reddit, or even chatrooms, provide a very low barrier to entry and very smooth/effortless posting experience.
This results in people posting every waking thought they have/every finished/every unfinished piece of art they create/ every update in their life/ every mentally ill pondering--Why share these?
I first had this idea when I realized how annoying it was to post on my music channel. I'd have to edit a video of all the songs together, create an image for each song with the title text and tracklist, upload it to youtube, export all the songs as wav, upload them to bandcamp--The whole process was annoying. But that was a good thing. It means I'll only bother to go through the process to share art I am proud of and believe is (sorta) fully polished.
(Although to a lesser extent), the same applies to sharing thoughts on this blog. Rather than write out a quick tweet/discord message/redditpost/take a snap or whateverthefuck, I have to actually create a new .html file, write something I believe is worthwhile enough to warrant a new post, copy the text from Obsidian to a bunch of paragraph tags, and link the new .html file on my Blog's main page.
As a result of this inconvenience, my blog does feature quite few posts. But all of them are posts I am happy with and don't hold any insecurity about the quality of. The same stands for my music. It's literally just "quality over quantity."
It's a pain in the ass, but that's a good thing.
